Carnelian is a semi-transparent gemstone. Carnelian, whose name comes from the red fruit of the dogwood, is a mineral variety of chalcedonies of red color. It is mainly used in jewelry but also in the form of polished stones for ornament or small pebbles. Carnelian owes its color to the inclusions of hematite it contains. Its hardness is between 6 and 7, its density is from 2.59 to 2.61, it is translucent.
