Amazonite is a variety of microcline, a potassium feldspar. It is distinguished by its characteristic color, varying from pale blue-green to deep green, due to the presence of lead inclusions. This color is often compared to that of the waters of the Amazon River, hence its name.
Amazonite is formed mainly in granitic or pegmatitic rocks, subjected to high temperature and pressure conditions. The most important deposits are found in Brazil, the United States, Canada and Russia. Its geological formation is linked to processes of replacement of other minerals with potassium, thus changing the color of the rock.
From a mineralogical point of view, amazonite is characterized by an average hardness, a vitreous luster and a relatively low density. Its physical properties make it a popular stone in jewelry, where it is used for the manufacture of jewelry such as pendants, bracelets and rings. Amazonite is also used in decoration, particularly for the creation of art objects or interior decoration.
