Sand Rose is a crystalline mineral formed by the evaporation of water in desert conditions. It is primarily composed of selenite, a variety of gypsum, and has a unique rosette-shaped crystal structure. The individual crystals are often flattened, and arranged in layers that fit together to form circular aggregates that resemble a rose in full bloom, hence the name. Sand Roses can vary in size, from small formations of a few millimeters to specimens several meters in diameter. They are generally colorless or white, but can also take on pinkish, beige or brown hues depending on the impurities present. Sand Roses form in arid regions where mineral-rich groundwater evaporates, leaving behind these distinctive crystal formations.
