Celestine, also known as Celestite, is a mineral of the sulfate class. Its chemical formula indicates that it is composed of strontium, sulfur and oxygen. It usually appears as colorless to pale blue crystals, although shades of green, yellow and red can also be seen. These crystals are often translucent to transparent and have a glassy to pearly luster. Celestine is found in sedimentary rocks and lava cavities, and is often associated with gypsum, anhydrite and halite. Due to its strontium content, Celestine is used as a source of this metal for various industrial applications.
