Zebra Jasper, also known as Dalmatian Jasper, is a mineral of the silicate family, subgroup of tectosilicates, and belongs to the class of microcrystalline quartz. Its chemical composition is mainly silicon dioxide (SiO2), with traces of other elements such as iron, manganese or aluminum. It is characterized by its streaked appearance, alternating white and black bands, reminiscent of the coat of a zebra, hence its name. It typically forms in sedimentary or volcanic environments, where silica-rich solutions settle slowly, allowing crystals to grow. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 6.5 to 7, which makes it a resistant stone. Zebra Jasper is mainly used as an ornamental stone, for the manufacture of jewelry or decorative objects.
