Agate is a mineral from the Quartz family, more precisely a variety of Chalcedony. It is characterized by its different layers of colors or tones, often in parallel and concentric bands. These bands are the result of the accumulation of silica in the cavity of volcanic rocks over time. Agate can come in a wide variety of colors, from white to black, red, brown, yellow, blue and green. Its hardness is 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, which makes it a fairly resistant stone. Agates are often used in jewelry and for the manufacture of art objects. They are also used in certain industries for their resistance to wear and chemicals.
