Larimar is a unique mineral, belonging to the silicate family, more precisely to the pectolite group. It is distinguished by its distinctive blue color, which can vary from opaque to translucent. It has a hardness of 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, which makes it relatively fragile. Larimar is found exclusively in the Dominican Republic, in the province of Barahona, making it a very rare mineral. It is formed by volcanic activity and is often collected in rivers. Its name comes from the combination of the first name "Larissa" and "mar", which means "sea" in Spanish, in reference to its color reminiscent of the ocean.
