Its color, ranging from light yellow to dark brown or even red, depends on the nature of the original resin. The resin, after being secreted by the tree, accumulates in the soil or is transported by watercourses. It is then buried under new layers of sediment and undergoes chemical transformations under the effect of pressure and temperature. Amber is an amorphous organic material, meaning that it does not have an ordered crystalline structure. It is lighter than water and can float.
