Labradorite, is a mineral renowned for its beautiful iridescent colours, called labradorescence, this optical property of this rock is due to the diffraction of light within its crystalline structure. Microscopic inclusions and micro-fractures present in the crystal act like tiny prisms, dispersing white light into a spectrum of vivid colours, usually blues, greens and yellows. Formed in igneous rocks, often associated with volcanic environments, labradorite is the result of complex geological processes. Its name comes from the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where it was first discovered. Due to its beauty and unique optical properties, labradorite is highly valued in mineralogy and jewelry. It is used for making jewelry, cabochons, and decorative objects. Collectors are particularly interested in specimens with spectacular labradorescence, with bright colors and intricate patterns.
