Chalcedony is a mineral belonging to the microcrystalline quartz family, more precisely, it is a variety of silica, composed of silicon dioxide. It is characterized by its fibrous and compact crystalline structure, and its color can vary from translucent to opaque, with shades ranging from white to gray, including blue, brown and black. Chalcedony typically forms in voids of volcanic and sedimentary rocks, where it crystallizes from silica solutions. It is often associated with other minerals such as agate, jasper or opal. Due to its hardness and resistance to erosion, chalcedony has been widely used throughout history for making tools, ornaments and jewelry.
