Garnierite is a mineral belonging to the nickel-bearing phyllosilicate family. This nickel ore is characterized by a variable nickel composition that can reach 20 to 30%, as well as a magnesium content of up to 15%. Garnierite specimens offered to collectors are distinguished by their magnificent hues ranging from emerald green to intense blue-green, a natural coloration directly linked to their nickel concentration.
From a mineralogical point of view, Garnierite has distinctive physical characteristics that make it particularly interesting for mineral enthusiasts. This mineral forms mainly under specific geological conditions, notably through the alteration of ultrabasic rocks such as dunites, peridotites, and serpentinites, under the influence of a warm tropical climate.
The most remarkable Garnierite deposits are found in New Caledonia, where the mineral was first identified. High-quality specimens are also found in Cuba, Brazil, and parts of Europe, such as Germany (St Egedien) and Poland (Szklary).
