In terms of physical properties, dolomite has a vitreous to pearly luster and a color that varies from white to gray, including pink or brown hues due to the presence of impurities. This mineral has a hardness of 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively scratch-resistant.
Dolomite has many industrial applications. It is used as a construction material, particularly in the manufacture of cement and dolomitic lime. In the steel industry, dolomite is used as a flux to remove impurities from iron ore. It is also used to neutralize acidic soils and as a source of magnesium in the chemical industry.
